IN THIS LESSON
UP-BOW STACCATO REAPPEARS.
Up-bow staccato is associated with a more light-hearted character. We want this stroke to contribute to a sunny and easy sound.
The bow hair maintains contact with the string, relying on small upward flicks from the wrist to create quick bursts of speed. The bow arm follows these motions continuously, while the wrist dictates the articulation. Keep the bow fingers relaxed and responsive throughout.
To master up-bow staccato, start slowly to ensure both control and relaxation at higher speeds. Focus on producing even, clear notes with each stroke. As you increase bow speed, use each down bow to relax and reset.

Up-bow staccato is much easier with a well-rosined bow! This grip makes a big difference. If you need fresh rosin, I personally recommend Bernadel.
