IN THIS LESSON

NOW, LET’S BEGIN WORKING ON SOME SPECIALLY CURATED EXERCISES, DESIGNED TO TRAIN THE TECHNIQUES REQUIRED FOR THE TRICKIEST MOMENTS OF MAZAS #26 FROM ETUDES SPECIALES.

Mazas etude #26 is a lively piece of music that provides an opportunity to showcase exceptional bow control, seamlessly transitioning between and singing through on- and off-the-string strokes. It also demands proficient left-hand technique, effortlessly navigating through first, third, and fifth positions, and executing energetic and melodious double stops. We have quite a journey ahead!

As you begin working on these new exercises in Chapter 2, focus solely on practicing them for now—set aside the etude itself. Our goal is to establish a solid foundation using these exercises, fostering comfort, ease, and confidence in the necessary skills for Mazas. Once you are fluent with these exercises, we will move on to learning the notes in Mazas and applying them to these techniques and the skills from Chapter 1. This approach ensures the most efficient and effective learning process, minimizing the risk of developing bad habits while tackling the etude.

Additionally, remember that the scales C, F, and G Major covered in Unit 1 will prove invaluable for mastering Mazas 26. Incorporate one of these scales into your daily warm-up routine before delving into Mazas practice.
